Lady Liberty and her Freedom Fighters:
We received a call from the shelter that there was a Mom and litter with 11 puppies who would need to be rescued as the pups were too young to be released to the public individually. Pups are about 5 weeks old at the first of June and will be ready to go to their new homes hopefully the first-second week of July.
Mom is a wonderful Mom who takes really good care of her pups. Poor girl was just saturated with feces and smelled so awfully when she first arrived. That's ok, our first order of business was a bath for everyone and well, it ended up a bath for not only the pups but the volunteers as well! Mom was so gentle and sweet as she was being bathed and then brushed. She is a wonderful dog who will make such a fabulous pet for a very lucky family. While many will clamor for the pups, the best will be the proud mom who stands to the side and will be overlooked.
They're all learning to use the doggy door. They think it's fun to walk outside and hold the flap up just until one of the others is coming behind them and let it go so it hits the other sibling in the head. Many a squabbles have started over that doggie door! The pups love to play with toys. Oh boy. There is not a toy untouched in their foster home. But like many others before them, the real prize is the empty plastic bottles. They got a 2 liter bottle the other day and that was hours of entertainment for them as so many could grab onto that!

Liberty's Freedom Fighters Update:
Yankee and Dandy
August 1, 2010
Libby was a magnificent Mom who was rescued from the shelter with her puppies. Despite a fabulous foster family who valiantly fought for all the puppies, due to exposure to diseases, Yankee and Dandy were our only two surviving puppies. We feel very fortunate to have saved them and now they are happy, healthy and ready to move onto their new homes the first weekend of August.
Momma Libby was a 60-70lbs ACD-Rottweiler-throw in the kitchen sink type. She seemed to have a whole lot of mix to her and so do her pups! We expect the pups will be in her range as well. They are 3 months old as of July 16th. They are spunky, energetic, playful pups who have been raised in a home with dogs, cats and kids. They are very friendly and outgoing.
Both puppies are an option for families with kids that have had experience with large size puppies. They will grow into big teen puppies in a month or two who will be jumping on everyone, so kids who aren't intimidated by that will be necessary.
Yankee: He's definitely a leader. He will lead anyone right into mischief. If there is something to be curious about or to explore then here he comes! He is the first to alert that there is a reason to be concerned as his head cocks and he lets out a low growl to let the predator know he's on to them. As soon as he sees something that is bigger than him, he runs and finds his foster mom. It's hysterical. He's all big and bad as long as he doesn't know what it is! Yankee loves to play. He's friendly and outgoing.

Dandy: He's definitely the follower in the group. Really, there's a cliff and I should follow you off it? Ok, here I go...Dandy is in the dark most of the time about what is going on and why he is on alert, why he is barking (which he does when Yankee starts), why he's playing with a toy (because Yankee played with it first) or why he's digging a big hole in the backyard (because Yankee started it!). Dandy is the sweetest, most loving puppy. He's also very chunky and built like a brick. Whereas Dandy does not weigh as much, oh Dandy is definitely the hefty-hefty-hefty one.
